Transport Market (SAATM) in Senegal has received a strong boost, as the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), in collaboration with National Civil Aviation Authority of Senegal (ANACIM) and the Ministry of Air Transport and Airports Infrastructure Development (MTADIA), held a national sensitization workshop highlighting the essence and strategies of implementing SAATM and Yamoussoukro Decision (YD).

The National Workshop with the theme, “Enhancing Collaboration among National Air Transport Stakeholders to Accelerate Implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market”, held March 9, 2023 at the Terrou-Bi Hotel, Dakar, Senegal, laid a new foundation to further strengthen air transport liberalization and increase aviation’s contributions to Senegal’s economy.

Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary General of AFCAC, emphasized that the National Workshop was essential to create synergy between AFCAC and the aviation Senegal’s National Aviation Workshop To Drive SAATM, Aviation Transformation institutions and stakeholders in Senegal to accelerate implementation of SAATM in Senegal in a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely manner, driven by the SAATM Pilot Implementation Project (PIP). Mr. Khassimou Dia, Director of Air Transport in the Ministry of Air Transport and Airports Infrastructure Development (MTADIA), who represented the Minister, Mr. Doudou Ka, reiterated the commitment of the Senegalese government to SAATM implementation, stressing the importance of coordination and avoidance of duplication of efforts in the implementation of SAATM.

Also, Mr. Sidy Gueye, the Director General of ANACIM, underlined the essence of building strong mechanisms for improved collaboration and coordination to implement SAATM. Stakeholders believe the implementation of the African Civil Aviation Policy (AFCAP), dispute settlement mechanism, competition rules and consumer protection developed with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines is essential for the successful implementation of SAATM in Senegal, and the region.
